So for four hours of classes, you can meet this requirement. But several of them offer two-hour courses on the Florida Building Code, as well as two-hour courses on wind mitigation techniques. In an interesting twist, no continuing education unit (CEU) providers appear to be offering this class. The existing license must be active or have been active within the last two years. You cannot use a license as one trade to apply for a license as another trade.įurther, Florida has multiple classes of licenses, so you need to check the definition of the type of work governed by each license class to see which one best fits your existing license. This new law applies to any contractor who would be eligible for a license under Chapter 489, Florida Statutes, including building contractors, HVAC contractors, pool contractors, electrical contractors, plumbing contractors, and many more!Īs part of this new statute, Florida’s Construction Industry Licensing Board is required to seek out and enter into formal reciprocity agreements with other states. The new rules make it easier for out-of-state contractors - who have been licensed in other states for at least 10 years - to obtain a Florida contractor’s license without having to take a licensing exam.
